How do I put together the pieces of my life?  How do I find the basic plot of my story?  How do I imagine what I could be?

Psychotherapy consists of a gradual unfolding process where I get to know and appreciate your uniqueness and inner world as fully as possible.  It is a powerful and useful space to bring awareness and clarity to what is happening in your life.  Awareness sets us out on the journey of exploration that must come with absolute honesty and responsibility if we are to make even one change in our lives.

It is ultimately the nature of the therapist/client relationship that facilitates progress, requiring on the part of the therapist the ability to relate openly, directly and with honesty without vested interests or preconceptions.  It is my belief that it is only in a relationship founded on openness and trust that we can be fully ourselves, possibly for the first time in our lives.  In such a context it is possible to see circumstances afresh, and to discover our true feelings and thoughts.  In seeing yourself from a clearer perspective, different options and choices become available that enrich rather than limit life, giving a sense of fulfilment and achievement in life.

Content and process are two major aspects of therapy.  Content is just that,  the words spoken, the issues raised.  Process refers to an enormously important and different dimension, the interpersonal relationship between you and me, client and therapist.  What is happening in the here and now of this experience, the verbal and the nonverbal behaviour that may shed light on other interactions and relationships outside the therapy room.  In the sessions we may also explore your motivations, which determine your choices and decisions, and what this means for you in your life.  Sometimes personal breakdowns can be seen to have a useful purpose and meaning in that they act as a warning signal and indicate the way for us to change, grow and move forward.  Crises can be seen as opportunities to re-examine ourselves, reassess our motivation, sense of purpose and meaning in life and our capabilities.  Qualities are brought forth and challenged in this process.

No one therapeutic approach holds the truth, my training and experience includes working with a range of approaches and strategies which work for you.  I aim to bring spontaneity, warmth, creativity and clarity to the therapeutic relationship.  Each person takes responsibility for the way they use therapy in their life.
